Collect for refugees at Lesvos, Greece. January 2020

Wind, cold or rain are no impediment for refugee people to arrive almost every day on the island of Lesbos, Greece. Therefore we will not stop and start the year organizing the first collection.

Winter is a complicated time for refugees who are on the Greek islands and especially for those who arrive across the Aegean Sea from Turkey. On these dates the risks increase due to cold and bad weather. Especially cases of hypothermia.

One way to prevent hypothermia is to change wet clothes and shoes for a dry one as soon as possible. This is where part of the work of Lighthouse Relief comes in, the organization where we usually send the aid.

Lighthouse Relief is in charge of locating and assisting refugees as soon as they arrive in the north of the island to take them to a safe place and give them food, water, a change of clothes and dry shoes.

Smiles on the Way, right now, is the only organization that regularly provides them with a large amount of clothing and humanitarian supplies that they need to continue performing this vital task.

With your help we can get them to be treated a little more humane and welcoming, the treatment they deserve.
